John 21: 16

Simon son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.”

Belay is on! Well, we’ve made it to the end of staff training and I, for one, can’t believe that it has gone by so quickly! It has been an awesome two weeks as we have gotten to know one another quite well and enjoyed some pretty great training sessions and fun activities. We’ve had some “mystery bus trips” that resulted in a trip to Wal-Mart and the shopping outlets here as well as an exciting outing to the Social Security Office for our international staff. That was a fun one, I’m sure!

Lend a tube!As we prepare for our weekend off before campers arrive we are getting together our activity lesson plans, prepping the waterfront, putting together chapel services, and readying the cabins. There’s a lot that goes into getting this place up and running but we manage to make it a fun time as we do so. Tomorrow afternoon we will have a Eucharist (Communion) service in St. Luke’s Chapel that will include a commissioning of our counselors for the summer ahead. The Very Rev. Canon John McGinty, Dean of The Mercer School of Theology for the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, will celebrate the Eucharist and lead the commissioning. It, will be a lovely service, I’m sure, in which we will celebrate our call by Jesus to lead our campers, tending our own flock, as they enjoy their time at Camp DeWolfe this summer!

And so, with one weekend standing between us and the start of our first Explorer Camp session we are excited to put all that we have learned and trained for into our activities and worship next week! Please keep all of us here at Camp DeWolfe, as well as our campers, in your prayers as we begin our summer camp sessions, and we will keep you in ours, as well!”
