Jeremiah 17:7
“Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.”
Discovery Camp week 1 has been a blast so far! We’ve had some pretty great food (Chef Alex strikes again!), great fun in all the activity areas (thanks, Counselors!), and great formation (thanks, Jesus)! We started Sunday night off with our first Christian formation session followed by our opening campfire. The campfire is always a great way to get to know one another and have some fun with s’mores before bedtime. We’re looking forward to our first Eucharist of the session with Fr. Larry Byrne tonight at St. Luke’s Chapel. So far, all is going really well!
Our Christian Formation theme for this session is Courage in Community. We are looking at different mini-themes that teach us what it means to live, play, and worship together as a Community of Christ at Camp DeWolfe. Our first two days we looked at how we can be courageous in showing up for one another. Yesterday and today we’ve seen passages that have to do with the courage to trust one another. This theme looked at the story of Ruth and Naomi, as well as a passage from Jeremiah 17:5-10. We saw how prayer for one another is a form of trust between each of us. Tomorrow, we will move on to how we, as a community of Christ, are called to forgive one another and we’ll use the story of Joseph and his brothers from Genesis. This weekend and next week our stories will take us through more of the Old Testament and into the Gospel of Matthew. Our Discovery Camp community at Camp DeWolfe is still growing but we are already a strong community of faith!
This weekend we will have our first weekend program run by lead counselors Brad and Katherine and the weekend theme is Olympics! This will be an awesome weekend of fun and excitement as we all participate in various camp Olympic events. Saturday night we have our Christian Formation on the beach where we will get to watch the sunset as we pray together. So, overall, this week has been great so far and we are looking forward to what is ahead for our awesome Discovery Camp Community! As always, you all are in our prayers here at camp.
Grace and Peace,
Stephen Tamke
