Matthew 28:19
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Well, here we are. The final two days of the final week of the final camp session of the summer at Camp DeWolfe. The last week of Adventure Camp has been really great! Our campers have gone on overnight camping trips to Wildwood State Park. They walked the beach from camp for a few miles to the beach access of Wildwood and then they pitched their tents and spent the night. The final group is out tonight and will be back tomorrow (Thursday) morning. Activity sessions have been “un-scheduled” in that, because of our small group of campers for the final week, we’ve just offered what they wanted when they wanted it. This week we’ve had Father Kino Vitet with us as chaplain. He is the Priest-in-Charge at St. Mark’s Church in Brooklyn. He will celebrate our final camp Community Eucharist tomorrow evening before our final closing campfire.
We finished up with the Christian Formation curriculum last week but our theme of Courage in Community has continued through our Christian Formation this final week. This week we’ve been doing traditional Morning and Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer each morning and night. These services come from the Daily Offices of the Episcopal Church and are a lovely way to begin and end the day. We have seen in daily scripture where community has been present in the life of Jesus and his disciples as well as how Jesus is always part of our lives and communities. Jesus calls us communities back home.
As Camp DeWolfe 2016 comes to a close we are thankful for the time that we have gotten to spend together with one another and for all the things that we’ve learned! Jesus has been present in our time together and our strength as a faith community has only gotten stronger. We hope to see you all again next year as we begin another summer as the Camp DeWolfe family! Until then, travel safely tomorrow, you are all in our prayers. Have a great rest of your summer and an even better year!
Grace and Peace,
Stephen Tamke
Christian Formation Director
