The Diocese of Long Island Office of Youth Ministry are participating in a special collaboration with the Diocese of New Jersey Youth Ministry Office.  Hurricane Sandy has adversely affected many neighborhoods, parishes, and people in our respective communities.  This is an opportunity to put our faith in action and for youth and adults to honor the third Mark of Mission, “to respond to human need by loving service.”

The Diocese of Long Island will host a Holy Week Mission Trip starting at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 24, 2013 on Palm Sunday.  Participants will learn about the challenges facing local residents and community agencies by working to help muck out homes, pack food, or support general cleanup efforts.  We will meet and work with residents and community organizers committed to supporting the ongoing recovery and sustainability work.  The week will end at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2013 (Maundy Thursday).  Missioners will be housed at Camp DeWolfe (www.campdewolfe.org) in Wading River, NY and will work, play, and pray with diverse youth from parishes in New York and New Jersey.

The mission trip is open to youth currently in grades 9-12. Adult chaperones that are safe church trained are serving to support this special ministry opportunity for our youth.  Please contact Ms. Myra Garnes Shuler (Director of Youth Ministry and Formation) at mgarnesshuler@dioceseli.org / 516-248-4800 x18 or The Rev. Canon Debi Clarke (Director of Youth Ministry) at dclarke@newjersey.anglican.org / 877-394-5281 x36.

This will be an amazing way to be a neighbor in mutual partnership with our brothers and sisters in Christ!  If you are willing to work hard and want to meet new friends while having fun during your spring break please consider joining this mission trip.  This is a moment to share stories and experiences while “doing the work the Lord has given us to do, to love and serve as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord.”

The Diocese of New Jersey will host another mission trip for youth from August 25-30, 2012 in Ocean Grove, NJ so save the date for part two of our mutual ministry collaboration!

In addition, they will be joined by a group from St David’s Episcopal Church in Wayne, PA also!

Please pray for this team of approx 40 volunteers who will become the hands and feet of Christ this week during their Holy Week/Spring Break Week!
