Last month, Camp DeWolfe held it’s 2014 Winter Camp where campers, college students and young adults (ages 18-30) bundled up for a snowy winter weekend on the Long Island Sound! This year’s Winter Camp theme was “New Beginnings”, starting the new year off seeking God’s plans for us all.
The weekend was based on Jeremiah 29:11-13: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Captions of the family movie Shrek was used the imagery for discussions and activities, identifying how everyone is on a life journey, to love God, love ourselves, and love others!
Winter Camp activities included snow archery, snow ga-ga, sledding, games, challenges, art projects, cupcake art, puzzles, campfires, s’mores and lots of hot chocolate to keep everyone warm!
Camp traditions and challenges were enjoyed by all – including the cleanest cabin, memory Bible verses, 3D maze, puzzles, penny grab, card stacks and hidden object hunts, and the annual silly songs and fun was had by all! Christian Camping is all about Christ, Community, the Outdoors and Developing Leaders and even with the snow and chilly wind, this was so at Winter Camp! The highlight of Winter Camp was for campers to be re-united with their life-long friends from the summer camp season and to retreat to a camp where they belong, are accepted as themselves and are safe in a Christian community.
The countdown now begins until summer camp 2014 and our prayers as a camp staff are for each camper to return to their permanent communities, with an increased confidence in Christ alone, knowing they are loved by God and are able to love everyone they meet in their schools, neighborhoods and families. We look forward to welcoming these winter campers back in summer camp, bringing their friends with them, as they continue their journey of love. We also pray for your 2014 to be filled with new beginnings on your journey of love, as you seek God’s plans!
