More than a Job

Being a counselor at Camp DeWolfe is more than just a job, ti is an experience for the body, mind, and spirit. I have learned so much from the campers. I expected to be the teacher but instead I became the student. I remember one morning during Christian formation we were asked to read a passage in the Bible and teach it to other campers. The passage my group received was about loving your enemies. When ti was our turn to present one of the campers said that for the people who we dislike or even marginalize, we still have to pray for them because they need it as much as we do. Hearing that...

All God’s Children

Well what can I say? Being at Camp DeWolfe for the summer has shown me very much about my faith, American culture, and living in a close-knit community. I will cherish my memories from camp forever. Camp DeWolfe was an environment of sharing God’s word openly to further campers’ and staffs’ understanding. Specifically, I learnt to treat each person at camp as one of God’s children. This meant being patient and udnerstanding in order to fulfill tasks but, more importantly, to strive for each camper to have the best possible time. Peace, Emma Cledwyn-Davies Summer Camp...

A New Point of View

Working at Camp DeWolfe changed my whole view on life. I no know that i could do anything I set my mind too. I also know that God is everywhere; in the people we meet, the nature around us, and the air we breathe. I loved encouraging kids to do the best they can on the bike trails. This summer has made me feel like a kid again and I want to thank the campers, the staff, Camp DeWolfe, and the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. Alex Pond Summer Camp Counselor...

Life-Changing Experiences

At camp this summer I had an amazing time. I was trained as a lifeguard and an American Camp Archery instructor, both of which I really enjoyed. I met so many kind and friendly counselors and hopefully made friends for life. The campers showed such enthusiasm and had so much energey which was so good to me. They were funny and fun and seemingly really enjoyed their activities. I worked with so many in archery and it was so rewarding for them to shoot well enough to gain an award at the end. I will take so much away from camp and I had such a life-changing experience. I hope I did a good job...

Unforgettable – Summer 2017

Working at camp DeWolfe as a counselor was fun and life-changing. It was my first time in the States when I arrived at camp. I worked along with amazing staff members and met great people throughout the summer. Being able to work along with campers of different backgrounds and get to know them was great. Being able to see them grow in confidence and build a community amongst themselves was beautiful. Enjoying themselves and trying new things was rewarding for me as a counselor as they were excited about their new experiences. There were hard days but definitely worth it because working along...

New Summer, New Challenges, New Joys

After finishing summer camp in 2016, I felt like it wasn’t over. I thought about camp most days, whether it was laughing at the memories or speaking to the friends I made. I also felt like I had so much left to give, so when I was given the opportunity to return in 2017, I couldn’t say no. This summer has been incredible – I have had new opportunities, such as working with the LITs and leading challenge course, and I have made more friends for life. I have grown in my relationship with God, which I don’t believe would have happened without Camp DeWolfe. My favourite...
